Description

Description

The Carandi Trail winds through the sandy hills of Roero in the Ceresole Alba area, crossing a landscape where Arneis vineyards and hazelnut groves alternate with stretches of downy oak and Scots pine forests. The trail takes its name from the historic Carandi farmhouse, an agricultural landmark in the area since the 18th century, and winds along scenic ridges offering views of the Rocche del Roero, the distinctive geological formations of sand and sandstone sculpted by millennia of erosion by the Tanaro River. Along the way, you pass through small rural villages where traditional hazelnut drying kilns and cellars carved into the crumbly rock still survive. The predominantly flat terrain with gentle undulations makes this route suitable for hikers of all levels. It is recommended to hike in autumn, when the vineyard foliage bathes the hills in golden and reddish hues.
