Description
The Sentiero di Sant'Anna traverses the hilly area of Cherasco, a city known for the 1631 peace treaty between the Duchy of Savoy and France and for its elegant Baroque architecture. The trail extends for nearly twenty-six kilometers through Nebbiolo and Dolcetto vineyards, hazelnut groves, and downy oak forests, reaching the country chapel of Sant'Anna, which gives the route its name. The cumulative elevation gain of nearly seven hundred meters features climbs and descents along panoramic ridges, with views that span from the Langhe to Monviso on clear days. Along the way, you pass through rural villages where traditional cellars carved into the tuff rock still survive, used to age local wines. This is a challenging route due to its length; we recommend setting out at dawn, bringing plenty of water, and possibly breaking it into two stages.
