Path of the Rocks

The Sentiero delle Rocce in Melle is a hiking gem in the lower Varaita Valley, where geology plays a key role. The route winds among striking rock formations, offering unique views of the valley floor and surrounding mountains. With nearly 500 meters of elevation gain spread over seven kilometers, the hike requires a good pace but rewards with extraordinary views. The limestone rocks that give the trail its name create an almost miniature Dolomite-like environment, particularly photogenic at sunset. It passes through mixed forests and meadows where it's not uncommon to spot chamois and birds of prey. The trail is well marked and accessible from spring to late autumn. Trekking poles are recommended for the steeper sections, as is a good supply of water.
