Description
The Ezio Nicoli Trail in Pontechianale is dedicated to the memory of the Piedmontese mountaineer and winds through the high altitudes of the Varaita Valley, offering breathtaking views of Monviso. Despite being only three kilometers long, the trail packs in over 800 meters of elevation gain in a challenging climb through scree slopes and alpine pastures. The view of the Stone King, Monviso at 3,841 meters, accompanies the entire hike, making it unforgettable. At high altitude, it's possible to spot ibex, marmots, and golden eagles nesting on the rock faces. The trail is accessible from June to October, snow conditions permitting. Sturdy mountain boots, poles, and layered clothing are recommended due to the temperature variations typical of high Alpine altitudes.
