Description
Trail 324 winds through the Roero hills south of Alba, among Nebbiolo and Barbera vineyards that produce some of Piedmont's finest wines. The route begins on the hilly outskirts of the city and climbs through neat rows of vines interspersed with stands of black locust and hazelnut trees, reaching altitudes that offer sweeping views of the Alba Langa and the Tanaro plain. The sandy soils of the Roero, formed by ancient Pliocene marine deposits, create a distinctive erosional landscape with typical 'rocche'—vertical walls of yellow sand up to 30 meters high. In autumn, during the Alba International White Truffle Fair, the surrounding woods are a destination for truffle hunters and their dogs. From March to November
