Trail 204

Trail 204 winds through the hills surrounding Benevello, a small town in the Alta Langa at 530 meters above sea level, through a landscape of hazelnut groves and mixed oak and chestnut forests. The route follows dirt roads and paths through farms where the Tonda Gentile delle Langhe PGI hazelnut is grown, whose harvest in August-September still marks the rhythm of the local seasons. From the highest points of the trail, views of the Alpine chain open up, from Monviso to Monte Rosa, while to the south, the hills slope down to the Bormida River. The village retains the cylindrical tower of the medieval castle, built in the 12th century by the Marquises of Saluzzo and later passed to the Del Carretto family of Cortemilia. From March to November; in spring, the wild cherry blossoms along the trail create a vibrant contrast with the green hazelnut groves.
